The 6 nights / 7 Days Do Dham Yatra is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage that typically covers the shrines of Kedarnath (dedicated to Lord Shiva) and Badrinath (dedicated to Lord Vishnu). The towns of Guptkashi and Rudraprayag are significant base points and scenic stops along the common pilgrimage route...
The Do Dham Route: A typical 6-days Do Dham itinerary starting from a major city like Haridwar -follows this general route: Haridwar → Guptkashi → Kedarnath → Guptkashi → Badrinath → Haridwar.
Rudraprayag: This is a major town and an important stop en route to Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is one of the five sacred confluences (Panch Prayag) of the Alaknanda River, where it meets the Mandakini River. The confluence is considered highly auspicious by pilgrims.
Guptkashi: A significant base town located in the Mandakini valley before the trek to Kedarnath. It is often the overnight stop before pilgrims proceed to Gaurikund (the trek starting point). The town has religious importance itself, as it's where Lord Shiva is believed to have hidden from the Pandavas (hence "Gupt Kashi" or "Hidden Kashi"). Key sites include the Vishwanath Temple and Ardhnareshwar Temple.
Kedarnath: This is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and sits at a high altitude (3,583 meters) surrounded by snow-capped Peaks.
- The journey involves a drive to Sonprayag/Gaurikund, followed by a challenging but scenic 16-19 km trek (Ponies, 'dolis', or helicopter services are available).
- The 8th-century Kedarnath Temple is a majestic stone structure where devotees seek blessings for salvation.
Badrinath After the Kedarnath leg, pilgrims drive to Badrinath via scenic mountain routes.
- The primary attraction is the Badrinath Temple, which is known for its divine aura and architecture.
- Pilgrims also take a holy dip in the nearby Tapt Kund (a natural hot spring) and visit Mana Village, the last inhabited village before the India-China border.
- : The abode of Lord Vishnu, located at an altitude of 3,133 meters on the banks of the Alaknanda River.
Haridwar is an ancient and highly revered Pilgrimage city in the Uttarakhand state of India, situated on the banks of the sacred Ganges River. It is one of the seven holiest places (Sapta Puri) for Hindus and is often called the "Gateway to the Gods" (Hari ka Dwar) because it is the point where the River Ganga first emerges from the Himalayas into the northern plains
Best time to Visit:
The best times to visit the Do Dham Yatra (Kedarnath and Badrinath) are the summer season (May to early July) and the autumn season (September to early November). Both periods offer pleasant weather, clear skies, and safe road conditions. The pilgrimage is not possible during the winter (late November to April) due to heavy snowfall, as the temples close during this period.
