The Chardham Yatra (Uttarakhand circuit) involves four sacred Hindu temples in the Himalayas: Yamunotri, origin of the Yamuna; Gangotri, abode of Ganga; Kedarnath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas for Shiva; and Badrinath, dedicated to Vishnu, said to cleanse sins. The journey starts from the foothills like Haridwar/Rishikesh, passes through towns like BarkotGuptkashiRudraprayag, connecting these holy sites, offering spiritual salvation through challenging treks and divine views.

Haridwar: Known as the "Gateway to the Gods," Haridwar is the customary starting point for the Char Dham Yatra. Pilgrims often take a purifying dip in the holy River Ganga at Har Ki Pauri and witness the revered Ganga Aarti before starting their journey to the high-altitude shrines.

Barkot: This is a key transit town and the last major halt before the trek to Yamunotri. It provides accommodation and essential services for pilgrims, as the road journey to Yamunotri's base (Janki Chatti) is typically done from here.

Yamunotri: 4.6 (1.6K) Glacier Yamnotri Range, Uttarakhand the first and westernmost Dham, Yamunotri is the source of the River Yamuna and the seat of Goddess Yamuna. The main temple is reached after a 6-7 km trek from Janki Chatti. Pilgrims bathe in the nearby thermal springs (Surya Kund) and perform puja at the Divya Shila before entering the temple.

Gangotri: The second Dham, Gangotri is the origin of the sacred River Ganga (Ganges). It is home to the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The actual glacial source, Gaumukh, is a further trek away, but the town is the primary pilgrimage site.

Guptkashi: A significant town located en route to Kedarnath. It serves as a major base camp and a common overnight halt due to its connectivity and available facilities. The road to the Kedarnath trek point (Gaurikund/Sonprayag) diverts from here.

Kedarnath: The third Dham and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The ancient stone temple is situated at a high altitude amidst the Garhwal Himalayas. The pilgrimage requires a strenuous 16-20 km trek from Gaurikund.

Badrinath: The final and most prominent Dham, dedicated to Lord Vishnu (specifically, a meditating form of Vishnu). The colorful Badrinath Temple is situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River, with the snow-capped Nar-Narayan Mountains as a backdrop. Pilgrims often take a dip in the Tapt Kund thermal springs before Darshan. Undertaking the entire circuit is believed to help devotees wash away sins and attain moksha (salvation).

Rudraprayag: This town holds immense religious significance as it is the sacred confluence (Sangam) of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. It is a major stopover on the route connecting the two Dhams in the Mandakini valley (Kedarnath) and the Alaknanda valley (Badrinath)

Rishikesh: A major spiritual hub and yoga capital located near Haridwar, Rishikesh is another common starting or ending point for the Yatra. It offers numerous ashrams and a serene environment by the Ganga River.
