Amarkantak is a serene pilgrimage town and Jabalpur is a bustling city known as the "Marble City of India". They are two of Madhya Pradesh's most prominent destinations, known for their spiritual significance and natural beauty. The two are approximately 227 kilometers apart by road.
Amarkantak
Located on the Maikal mountain range in the Anuppur district, Amarkantak is the source of the Narmada and Sone rivers. It is known as "Teerthraj," or "the king of pilgrimages," and is ideal for nature lovers and spiritual seekers.
Key attractions:
Narmada Udgam Temple: Marks the exact origin of the Narmada River and is the town's most important pilgrimage site.
Kapil Dhara and Dugdha Dhara Waterfalls: The Narmada River forms these scenic waterfalls, where legend says the sage Kapila meditated.
Ancient Temples of Kalachuri: A cluster of beautifully carved temples from the 10th and 11th centuries, built by the Kalachuri king Karnadeva.
Kabir Chabutra: The place where the revered saint Kabir is said to have meditated.
Mai ki Bagiya: A sacred garden dedicated to the goddess Narmada.
Jabalpur
A large city located on the banks of the Narmada River, Jabalpur is known for its natural wonders, especially the unique Marble Rocks. The city is a major administrative and industrial hub with a rich history.
Key attractions:
Bhedaghat Marble Rocks and Dhuandhar Falls: The Narmada River has carved an 8-kilometer gorge through white marble cliffs. You can take a boat ride to see the glowing marble formations and the impressive "smoke cascade" of the Dhuandhar Falls.
Balancing Rock: A peculiar geological formation where a large boulder balances on a much smaller rock base.
Madan Mahal Fort: A 12th-century fort built by the Gond rulers, offering a panoramic view of the city.
Rani Durgavati Museum: Houses sculptures, inscriptions, and prehistoric relics, with a special collection dedicated to the Gond queen Rani Durgavati.
Tilwara Ghat: This is the place where Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were immersed in the Narmada River
Best time to visit: The winter months between October and February are the most pleasant for visiting both locations, with cool temperatures ideal for sightseeing.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 01: Jabalpur – Arrival
Upon arriving at Jabalpur Railway Station or Airport, proceed to your hotel. Check-in, freshen up, and visit Kachnar City, known for its big statue of Lord Shiva. In the evening, attend the Aarti at the holy Narmada River in Gwarighat. You can also take part in the peaceful Deepdan ceremony. Overnight stay at Hotel in Jabalpur.
Day 02: Jabalpur Sightseeing
After breakfast, start your day by visiting Bhedaghat, known for its marble rocks, and the beautiful Dhuandhar Waterfall. Explore the ancient Chausath Yogini Temple and enjoy boating or a ropeway ride at Panchwati (optional). Later, visit Bargi Dam, where you can try a cruise ride, speed boating, or other activities.Overnight stay at Hotel in Jabalpur.
Day 03: Jabalpur –Amarkanthak (230 Kms / 5 Hrs)
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Amarkanthak, located at the meeting point of the Vindhya and Satpura ranges. It is also the source of three rivers: Narmada, Sone, and Johila. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and visit Narmada Kund, Mai Ki Bagia, Kapildhara (the origin of the Narmada River), Dudh Dhara, and Son Muda. Overnight stay at Hotel in Amarkanthak.
Day 04: Amarkanthak – Jabalpur –Departure
After Breakfast check out from Amarkanthak Hotel and Darshan for Narmada Temple, Jain Temple, and Rishi Aashram later continue drive back to Jabalpur. On Arrival departure Transfer to Jabalpur Railway station/Airport for onwards Journey.
