Bhopal is the capital city, known for its lakes and proximity to the Bhimbetka rock shelters, which feature ancient paintings and are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Bhojpur is famous for its large, unfinished Shiva temple and the Bhojeshwar Temple, while Sanchi is known for its ancient Buddhist stupas. Ujjain is a sacred city with the Mahakaleshwar temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and Omkareshwar is another important pilgrimage site, also home to a Jyotirlinga. Indore is a major city known for its palaces, markets, and modern amenities, including the famous Sarafa Bazaar night food market.  

Bhopal: 

The capital of Madhya Pradesh is a fascinating blend of scenic beauty and rich history, built around two picturesque lakes.

Major attractions:

Bhojtal (Upper Lake): A major source of drinking water for the city and a popular spot for water sports.

Van Vihar National Park: A wildlife sanctuary located on the shore of the Upper Lake.

Taj-ul-Masajid: One of the largest and most beautiful mosques in India.

Cultural heritage: The city was founded by Raja Bhoj in the 11th century.

Bhimbetka

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Bhimbetka rock shelters are an archaeological treasure dating back to the Stone Age. 

Key features:

The site features over 700 rock shelters with more than 400 containing prehistoric paintings that are approximately 30,000 years old. 

The paintings depict the life of the early human inhabitants, including scenes of hunting, dancing, and everyday activities.

Location: Situated within the Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary, about 45 km from Bhopal.

Significance: It provides a rare glimpse into the evolution of human life and culture. 

Bhojpur

 is famous for the incomplete Bhojeshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Architectural marvels:

Bhojeshwar Temple: This 11th-century temple houses one of the largest rock-carved Shiva lingams in India, standing at 18 feet tall with a circumference of 7.5 feet.

Historical mystery: The reason for the temple's abrupt abandonment remains unknown, adding to its mystique.

Location: Located on a scenic hilltop near the Betwa River, about 28 km from Bhopal. 

Sanchi

Sanchi is renowned for its Buddhist monuments, the most famous being the Great Stupa. 

Key features:

The Great Stupa: Commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, it is one of the oldest stone structures in India.

Toranas (gateways): The ornate, intricately carved gateways depict Jataka tales (stories of the Buddha's previous lives) and scenes from early Buddhist history.

Location: Situated on a hilltop approximately 46 km northeast of Bhopal.

Significance: It is a vital pilgrimage site for Buddhists and a testament to early Indian architecture. 

Ujjain

An ancient city on the banks of the Kshipra River, Ujjain is one of the seven sacred pilgrimage sites (Sapta Puri) for Hindus. 

Spiritual importance:

Mahakaleshwar Temple: Home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (shrines of Lord Shiva).

Simhastha Kumbh Mela: Hosted here once every 12 years, one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world.

Other attractions: The Vedh Shala (Jantar Mantar) observatory and Ram Ghat are also popular spots. 

Omkareshwar

A sacred island shaped like the "Om" symbol, located in the Narmada River.

Spiritual significance:

Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga: This is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva.

Mamleshwar Temple: Located on the mainland opposite the island, it is also considered a Jyotirlinga. Pilgrims believe their journey is incomplete without visiting both.

Location: Accessible by boats or bridges, the island provides a serene pilgrimage experience. 

Indore

Indore is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh and a major commercial hub, known for its delectable street food and vibrant culture. 

Highlights:

Rajwada Palace: A beautiful and historic palace that is a blend of Maratha and Mughal architecture.

Street food: Sarafa Bazaar, a jewelers' market by day, transforms into a bustling food street at night, and Chappan Dukan are must-visit destinations for food lovers.

Kanch Mandir: A stunning Jain temple made entirely of glass and mirrors.

Best time to visit: October to March offers pleasant weather for exploring. 

 

Detailed Itinerary: 

Day 01: Bhopal –Arrival – Bhimbetka (45 Kms / 1 Hrs) –Bhojpur (25 Kms / 40 Mnts)  – Bhopal (30 Kms / 1 Hrs) 

Morning Arrival at Bhopal Airport / Railway Station, On Arrival our local representative will meet and assist you later followed by Transfer to Hotel afterwards proceed to Bhojpur- a town of historical and religious importance, we also visit Bhojeshwar Temple followed by to visit Bhimbetka caves – home to some of the oldest cave paintings known to man. Evening drive back to Bhopal. Overnight Stay at Hotel in Bhopal.

Day 02: Bhopal – Sanchi (50 Kms / 1 Hrs)  – Udaigiri (10 Kms / 20 mnts) – Bhopal (56 Kms / 1.5 Hrs) –Day trip

After Breakfast proceed to visit Sanchi. A beautiful city that is popular for a lot of things. This is a quaint and small city in proximity to Bhopal. About 50km from the city, On Arrival visit the infamous Sanchi Stupa which will take not more than a couple of hours. & Afternoon visit Udaigiri Caves Udaigiri Caves have a remarkable collection of sculptures that were carved into the rocks around the 4th and 5th centuries AD, Later drive back to Bhopal. Overnight Stay at Hotel in Bhopal.  

Day 03: Bhopal –Ujjain (200 Kms / 4 Hrs) 

After Breakfast drive to Ujjain. On Arrival check-in at Hotel afterwards Sightseeing Tour of Ujjain visit Mahakaleshwar temple, Sandipani Ashram, Iskcon temple, Harsiddhi Temple, Ram Ghat, Shakti Peeth, Bade Ganesh Ka Mandir etcOvernight Stay at Hotel in Ujjain.

Day 04: Ujjain – Omkareshwar – (145 Kms / 3-4 Hrs) - Indore (78 Kms / 2.5 Hrs)

After breakfast proceed to Omkareshwar, it is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas visited every year by a large number of pilgrims. The island of Omkareshwar is naturally shaped like ‘OM’, the sacred Hindu symbol. The 270 ft. Hanging Bridge over Narmada enhances the beauty of Omkareshwar. The three storey Gauri Somnath Temple is made in the shape of peahen. Evening depart to Indore. On Arrival check-in at Hotel. Overnight Stay at Hotel in Indore.

Day 05: Indore Sightseeing –Departure

After Breakfast check-out from the hotel and Proceed for local sightseeing tour of Indore which included place like Bada Ganpati, Rajwada Palace and Khajrana Ganesh Mandir, Lal Bag palace and Pitra Parvat etc. Evening on time departure Transfer to Indore Airport / Railway Station for return home.
