This Madhya Pradesh heritage tour includes historical sites like Gwalior Fort and the ancient temples of Mitavli and Padavli; the beautiful city of Orchha known for its palaces and temples on the banks of the Betwa River; the historic city of Jhansi and its fort; the weaving town of Chanderi, famous for its textiles and fort; and the world-renowned Khajuraho temples (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) known for their intricate carvings. The tour also includes the wildlife haven of Panna National Park for a safari adventure.  

Gwalior: A city of forts and palaces 

Gwalior with its formidable hill fort, is a starting point of the tour, steeped in the history of the Bundela and Scindia dynasties. 

Gwalior Fort: This "pearl among fortresses" is the city's main highlight.

Light and Sound Show: Stay for the evening show to see the fort illuminated and hear its history.

Man Mandir Palace: Located within the fort, this palace features intricate carvings.

Jai Vilas Palace: The current residence of the Scindia family, this palace is also a museum showcasing royal artifacts.

Other attractions: Visit the Tomb of Mohammad Ghaus, the Sun Temple , and the Saas Bahu Temple.

Mitavli, Padavli, and Bateshwar: Ancient temples

Just outside Gwalior, these sites offer a glimpse into ancient Indian art and architecture.

Ekattarso Mahadev Mandir (Chausath Yogini Temple):This 11th-century temple is circular in design, with 64 small chambers dedicated to yoginis. Its unique layout is said to have inspired the design of the Indian Parliament building.

Garhi Padavali Morena:This 18th-century fortress also has a temple adorned with scenes from Hindu mythology.

Bateshwar Group of Temple's Morena:An archaeological marvel near Padavli featuring nearly 200 small sandstone Hindu temples.

Orchha: The Bundela capital

Explore palaces like Jahangir Mahal and Raja Mahal, noted for their stunning architecture.

Shri Ram Raja Mandir:This unique temple was originally a palace, and is now a site of pilgrimage where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king.

Chaturbhuj Temple Orchha:This grand temple features towering spires and exquisite architecture.

The Royal Chhatris:Riverside cenotaphs dedicated to the rulers of the Bundela dynasty.

Jhansi: City of the brave queen

A symbol of courage and a gateway to Orchha and Khajuraho, Jhansi is most famous for its queen, Rani Lakshmibai. 

Jhansi Fort: Built by the Bundela king Veer Singh, this fort was the site of a fierce battle during the 1857 Rebellion.

Rani Mahal: Once the queen's residence, it is now a museum dedicated to the city's history. 

Chanderi: Historical monuments and famous weaves

This historic town is famous for its handwoven Chanderi sarees and a stunning collection of monuments. 

Chanderi Fort: Explore the fort ruins and other monuments, offering a picturesque view of the surrounding hills and lakes.

Khajuraho: Temples of art and culture

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Khajuraho is celebrated for its stunning medieval temples adorned with intricate and often erotic sculptures. 

Western Group of Temples: The most famous group, featuring masterpieces like the Kandariya Mahadeva and Lakshmana temples.

Eastern Group of Temples: This group contains prominent Jain temples, such as the Bhagawan Parshwanath temple

Sound and Light Show: An evening program at the Western Group of temples details the history and construction of the monuments.

Panna- A tryst with wildlife and nature

A perfect complement to the historical journey, Panna offers a glimpse into Central India's natural beauty.

Panna National Park: A Project Tiger reserve known for its thriving tiger population and other wildlife like leopards and sambar.

Ken River: Enjoy the river's serene beauty and spot various animals coming to drink from its banks.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 01: Gwalior – Arrival + City Tour

Arrival & Transfer to Gwalior Hotel and Afternoon sightseeing tour of the historic Gwalior fort. This fort was built in 8th century CE by Raja Maan Singh Tomar. Important buildings housed inside are Gurjari Mahal and Man mandir. This fort is built on a steep hill called Gopachal .Gurjari mahal was built by Raja Man Singh for his Gurjar wife called Mrigyanayani. This palace has been changed into a museum and it contains artifacts of Jain and Hindu religion. Man Mandir was also built by Raja Man Singh and has beautiful art work on its walls. Other noteworthy structures are Hathipol,Teli ka mandir,Sash bahu ka mandir,Garuda monument,Karan mahal, Vikram Mahal and a magnificent Sikh temple built in memory of sixth Sikh guru Sri Guru Hargobind sahib. Day 02: Gwalior – Mitavli –Padavli – Bateshwar - Gwalior –Day Trip

After Breakfast Full Day Visit Mitawali & Padawali

Mitawali: - Situated at about a distance of 30kms from Gwalior, Mitawali gives a refreshing twist for those, who seek something new while visiting Thousand-year-old heritage of India. Mitawali’s “Chausath yogini mandir” or “Temple of 64 goddesses” , having a structure similar to Indian Parliament, with a circular Courtyard, having Lord Shiva at its Centre, and 64 small rooms at its periphery, gives a new understanding of architecture, different from monotonous structures of temples, we are used to visit.
 

Padawali -: Situated at about 5 kms from Mitawali, Padawali is known for It ruins and Small Fortress, however, having little to offer in terms of Spectacle. Padawali boasts of its Title of “Mini khajuraho”.

Bateshwar Temples -: Bateshwar Temples situated near Padawali, are said to be made in 8 – 10 century, Having Lush green environment, Place boasts of its Architectural magnificence. Most of the temples here are devoted to Lord Shiva. Back in Gwalior. Overnight Stay at Hotel in Gwalior.

Day 03: Gwalior – Datia (78 Kms / 2 Hrs) – Jhansi (30 Kms / 40 Mnts) – Orchha (18 Kms / 30 mnts) 

After Breakfast drive to Orchha en-route Datia, visiting Datia fort
Datia Palace, also known as Bir Singh Palace or Bir Singh Dev Palace. The specialty of this palace is that it is of 7 floor. However neither member from the royal family did ever lived here. The founder of the Datia State in Bundel khand. Maharaj Birsingh Deo built many monuments all around India. Datia’s Palace or the Satkhanda Palace is also called Purana Mahal or the “Old palace“, Historian Abdul Hamid Lahori came to this city with Shah Jahan on 19 November 1635. He said that the palace was nearly 80 meters long and was also this much broad. He said this as a very beautiful and strong palace.

Afternoon Proceed to visit Jhansi fort, Jhansi Fort -:The construction of the fort is ascribed to the Bundela Rajput chief and the ruler of the kingdom of Orchha Veer Singh ju Deo Bundela in 1613.It was one of the strongholds of the Bundelas. Jhansi Fort had a Nominal face value before 1857.The fort standing in the hilly area shows the north Indian style of fort construction, where most of the forts were built upon rocks, as their primary defence. There are 10 gates giving access to the fort. Some of these are Khanderao Gate, Datia Darwaza, Unnao Gate, Jharna Gate, Laxmi Gate, Sagar Gate, Orchha Gate, Sainyar Gate and Chand Gate. Notable sights in the fort are the Shiva temple, Ganesh temple at the entrance, and the Kadak Bijli cannon used in the uprising of 1857. The memorial board reminds one of the hair-raising feat of the Rani Lakshmibai in jumping on horseback from the fort.

Later continue drive to Orchha. On Arrival check-in at Hotel. Overnight Stay at Hotel in Orchha.

Day 04: Orchha Sightseeing

After Breakfast Breakfast get ready to leave for the local sightseeing tour. Our day tour to Orchha will include a visit to, Orchha fort complex, Laxminayaran Temple and Raja Ram Temple. All these are the major attraction of the place and can leave you with a mesmerizing experience. After exploring these places we will return back to the hotel for a relaxing. Overnight stay at Hotel in Orchha.

Day 05: Orchha – Chanderi (105 Kms / 3 Hrs / One way)– Orchha / Jhansi – Day trip

After Breakfast Proceed to Chanderi is a town of historic importance right from the time of Malwa Sultans and Bundela Rajputs, who ruled the region in 15th and 16th century. Surrounded by exotic hills, lakes, and forest, this attractive destination is incredibly famous for Chanderi saris and historic monuments that draw a large number of tourists to this place every year. Also, the great Jain monuments and their fascinating culture make Chanderi, one of the most proffered tourist destinations in Madhya Pardesh. There are many things that boost Tourism in Chanderi like Chanderi Fort, Chanderi museum, Jain palaces, and exquisite lakes. Evening drive Back to Orchha / Jhansi.  Overnight Stay at Hotel in Orchha / Jhansi

Day 06: Orchha / Jhansi – Khajuraho (172 Kms /3-4 Hrs) + City Tour

Afternoon visit for western group of temple and eastern group of temple.

Western Group of Temple:

On the main road, beside the path leading to the Matangeshwar Temple is the A.S.I counter where you must purchase a ticket to visit the western group of temples in this complex and the museum on the opposite side. A boundary wall surrounds and protects the temples within this large rectangular complex and there is only one entry point. Here at the Western Group you will see some of the most sensational temples in the world.

Eastern Group of Temple:

A kilometer towards the east from the western group of Temples is the khajur sagar and the old village of Khajuraho. On one of the paths to the village is a modern whitewashed structure with a large orange – red statue within. The statue is still worshipped but is one of the oldest images to be found in khajuraho.The images is of hanuman, the monkey king who assisted Ram (of the Ramayana) through his travails in exile. The rest of the evening is at leisure to explore the local shops and market. Overnight Stay at Hotel in Khajuraho.

Day 07: Khajuraho – Panna National Park (45 Kms / 1 Hrs) 

After Breakfast Proceed to Panna National Park. On Arrival check-in at Hotel. This promises to be a day filled with unlimited adventure and excitement, as you will get a chance to enjoy the jeep safari in Panna Tiger Reserve, otherwise known as Panna National Park.

Panna National Park contains a wealth of fauna and flora, not to mention other sites of religious significance. Inside the national park you also come across the Pandava Falls, which descend furiously from a height of 100ft and are undoubtedly the highest waterfall in India. They are so named because it is believed that the Pandavas stayed here during their exile, according to Mahabharat, the Hindu mythological epic. It is also home to the long nosed Alligators, the sight of which is at once chilling and fascinating. Its landscape is of the dry deciduous type, with the River Ken zigzagging its way through the valleys and plains. Apart from the tiger, which is always a crowd favourite, the other mammals which you can spot are chital, Sambhar, leopard and sloth bear, to name a few. The safari timings in Panna National Park are from 6:30 to 10:30 am in the morning and 14:30 to 17:30 pm in the evening. The safari will take you to the most popular spots in the national park which offer great opportunities for spotting animals. During your safari. Overnight stay at Hotel / Resort/lodge in Panna.

Day 08: Panna- Khajuraho (45 Kms / 1 Hrs) – Departure

After Breakfast departure Transfer to Khajuraho Airport / Station for onwards Journey.
